The recent opening of Buttermilk Sky Pie brought the southern tradition of homemade pies to the Sandy Springs, Buckhead district of Atlanta. And, along with the wonderful taste of their famous buttermilk pies, the owners sought to create a welcoming decor for their patrons.
When it came to the flooring for their first concept store, the shop owners wanted to bring the same attention to detail to the building as they do to their baking. They loved the look of polished concrete so they turned to the decorative concrete experts at AAA Southern States Refinishing.
Epoxy Floors Buckhead Atlanta for Retail Pie Shop
Client: Buttermilk Sky Pie, 4600 Roswell Road, Suite C130, Sandy Springs, Georgia 30342
General Contractor: Medallion Group
Decorative Concrete Contractor: AAA Southern State Refinishing (770) 355-2453
Location: Buckhead District, Sandy Springs in Fulton County, Georgia
Project Requirements: Application of epoxy & urethane to mimic the look of polished concrete floors
Scope of Commercial Epoxy Flooring Project
Although client desired polished concrete floors for the pie shop, AAA Southern States Refinishing advised the property owners that they needed a more sealed surface than polished concrete would allow. In fact, should their trademark cherry pie ever fall to the floor, the absorbency of polished concrete would allow the floor to stain.
John Dykes, AAA’s owner, suggested an epoxy floor coating with urethane topcoat. The crew used Westcoat two-component epoxy seal coat followed by Key Resins two-component urethane for a high performance system.
The contractor chose waterbased epoxies because it will not darken or blacken the concrete like solvent-based or most 100% solids epoxies tend to do. This product selection allowed the team to create a look that mimics polished concrete yet supplies a much more durable floor with virtually no maintenance…other than normal cleaning.
